HalSail FAQ

How do I give a boat redress?

A protest panel or the race committee may decide to give a boat redress.

In HalSail you do that by giving the boat a finishing status of RDG and choosing one of the following types of redress:

  1. Av all races. Average points for all races in the series, including excluded races (discards). The boat gets the mean of the points it got in all other races in the series, including any non-finishing points such as DNC, OCS, etc.
  2. Av excluding DNC. Average points for all races excluding DNC results, but including excluded races (discards). The boat gets the mean of the points it got in all other races in the series, excluding points for DNC up to the maximum number of races it is allowed to exclude (discard). If it has more DNC results than it can exclude, the excess will be included in the mean.
  3. Av previous races. Average points for all races before the one in question, including excluded races (discards) The boat gets the mean of the points it got in all races in the series before this one. Later races do not affect this result.
  4. Place. Points for a given place. The boat will receive the same number of points as a boat that finished the race in that place. Note that another boat that really finished in that place will have equal points.
  5. Points. A particular number of points. The boat will be given a particular number of points specified by the protest panel or race committee.

In each of the above cases the boat may, or may not, count as a starter in the race. There is a check box you can set when allocating the status to specify whether the boat is a starter or not.
